This position is responsible for supervising and managing all day shift and rotating shift millwrights, pipefitters, other mechanical crafts and leadmen. Plan, organize and control all mechanical maintenance work in assigned areas. Plan, organize and execute scheduled shut downs and maintenance shop rebuilds and assure safety guidelines are met. Manage all area repairs and preventive maintenance per budget.
Supervise assigned craftsmen. Provide positive, proactive direction and management to assigned crews.
Work closely with superintendents, maintenance coordinator, shift supervisors, planning department and appropriate department personnel to assure that all maintenance activities are coordinated and executed to established plans and schedules.
Actively maintain open communications with both hourly and salaried employees in order to foster a team-based partnering atmosphere.
Conduct annual performance evaluations with the department maintenance hourly employees.
Assess the needs of the crew and implant developmental processes (e.g. coaching, counseling, taking corrective action, mentoring, etc.) to continuously improve their performance.
Assist in the development of skill- enhancing training courses necessary to support individual and mill performance improvement efforts. Accountable to make sure crew is trained and qualified.
Responsible for weekend and nightly mill wide calls.
Provide regular inspections of work areas to assure that good housekeeping practices are followed and that all department area maintenance facilities and tools are kept in good repair.
Instruct and lead crew in safe work practices in pursuit of zero injuries.
Coordinate own activities and those of area employees to assure that all mechanical maintenance work is conducted in a low cost culture while at the same time striving to achieve optimum equipment and process reliability.
Maintain a high level of awareness of all mechanical maintenance activities being performed throughout the mill.
Identify and correct any potential problems (troubleshooting) and take appropriate action necessary to prevent serious equipment failure.
Facilitate preventative and predictive maintenance initiatives.
Monitor equipment efficiency and preventive/predictive maintenance procedures to identify problems and set up corrective repairs.
Maintain department repair records in a manner to best identify future preventive maintenance needs.
Monitor and identify equipment which has excessive/repetitive maintenance costs.
Required Education and Related
Experience:
High School Diploma required, Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Maintenance or related field preferred.
Minimum seven years mechanical experience in a tissue or paper mill required. Prior experience in a leadership position with supervisory experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities (technical/professional skills, expertise and qualifications):
Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to supervise employees and work within a union environment.
Knowledge of JD Edwards a plus.
Excellent mechanical and trouble shooting skills.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
